So I'm on east coast time out on the west coast, which means that I get up at 6 am and feel like I slept in.  With nothing to do in the morning, I hit the roads early and jog around the city.  San Francisco is cold this week, so I look silly in my shorts when all the street car drivers are bundled up.Jogging always seems like such a bad idea when you're in bed in the morning, but . . .

I've been in the habit of biking to work since my time at The Washington Post.  Now I'm at NPR, which adds 10 minutes to my commute and, whereas I used to live in Rosslyn (just across the bridge from Georgetown), I'm now much further out in the burbs.  My total bike ride is 40 minutes each way.  I justify this by telling myself: I'd rather spend 40 minutes on my bike than . . .

My pallet is impressive. While an undergraduate, my friend's husband was in chef school learning under The Emeril in New Orleans and made dinner for me one night. He just threw together this fabulous poached fish dish and I complimented him on it adding that I loved the X. (might have been basil). He was impressed that I noticed the X as there was very little X in it and asked me what else . . .

My wife and I love giving dinner parties, and what we've discovered is that the ambience is at least as important as the menu.
